Sternbergia Lutea

Sternbergia Lutea

A bold autumn-flowering bulb with crocus-like golden-yellow blooms. Ideal for dry, sunny borders, banks, and Mediterranean-style landscapes. Naturalises well in free-draining soils.

Description

Sternbergia lutea, often called the “Autumn Daffodil,” brings a surprise burst of bright golden-yellow colour just as most gardens are winding down. This hardy bulb thrives in well-drained soils and full sun, making it a great choice for low-maintenance planting schemes, dry banks, gravel gardens, and rockeries.

For landscapers, it offers late-season interest and blends well with ornamental grasses or drought-tolerant perennials. This yellow goblet flowers when few do (Sept-Nov). It will naturalise and multiply in favourable conditions, especially where summers are hot and soils are sandy or chalky.  Easily maintained, it is drought tolerant and pest resistant.
