Description
Species Tulip Linifolia is a compact botanical tulip for planting where a small plant needs to deliver strong colour. It is lower and more naturalistic than standard hybrid tulips, but the flower colour is anything but quiet. The effect is a sharp scarlet-red display held close to the ground, with dark centres adding contrast when the flowers open. The flowers are bright red to scarlet-red, with black markings at the base of the petals.
Linifolia is best used where its low height and vivid colour can be properly seen. It suits gravel planting, raised planters, courtyard containers, estate border fronts, public garden collections, hotel garden paths, rockery-style beds and smaller commercial landscape features. It should be planted near paths, entrances or seating areas rather than hidden behind taller narcissus or hybrid tulips. Linifolia has strong value in naturalistic and botanical planting as it is a good naturaliser.
Use Species Tulip Linifolia with blue muscari, early crocus, low narcissus, white species tulips, fine grasses, soft yellow botanical tulips and gravel-style planting. It works best in repeated groups, where the small flowers combine into a clear red spring signal without losing their individual botanical detail.
