Description
Tulip Daydream is a classic Darwin hybrid known for its remarkable colour shift: buds emerge soft yellow and gradually deepen to rich apricot and tangerine as they mature. Standing 50 to 55 cm tall, it produces large, midseason blooms ideal for mass planting in beds, lawns, and borders requiring bold colour evolution through April.
As a Darwin hybrid, Daydream performs best in full sun with fertile, moderately free-draining soils. It is highly reliable in exposed and inland sites throughout Ireland, including institutional beds, educational campuses, and suburban frontages. It also holds strong in parkland or roadside verge schemes where visibility and vibrancy are essential.
This cultivar is particularly effective in structured spring bedding alongside tulips such as Negrita or White Marvel, mass plantings in civic open spaces, large-scale landscape design where seasonal gradient planting is desired and succession beds with underplanted Muscari, Anemone blanda, and late daffodils.
While not strongly fragrant, Daydream’s open form and warm colours attract early-season pollinators and help connect floral colour progression through spring schemes. Its gradual colour change adds visual interest and rhythm to layered plantings.
