Description
Species Tulip Clusiana Peppermint Stick is a refined botanical tulip for planting where the brief calls for natural detail, lightness and repeat spring interest rather than large formal bedding flowers. It belongs to the lady tulip group, with a narrow upright bud, slender petals and a graceful habit suited to gravel gardens, raised beds, containers and naturalistic border edges. The flowers are bright white with strong cerise to lipstick-red outer markings, giving the closed buds a striped peppermint-stick appearance. When the flowers open in sunshine, the white interior becomes more visible and the bloom takes on a clean, star-like shape.
Peppermint Stick is best used where its slim shape and bicolour detail can be seen close up. It suits estate garden margins, public garden borders, gravel planting, raised beds, hotel garden paths, courtyard containers, heritage gardens and smaller commercial landscapes. It should be planted in repeated informal groups rather than isolated bulbs, so the white-and-cerise striping reads clearly across the display.
This variety works well with blue muscari, early crocus, low narcissus, fine grasses, white species tulips, soft yellow botanical tulips and simple spring perennials and It naturalises easily in the correct conditions.
