Description
Lily-Flowered Tulip Claudia is suited to customers who want a tulip with a more elegant outline than standard cup-shaped varieties. The flowers are narrow, pointed and distinctly lily-shaped, with purple-red to magenta-purple petals edged in crisp white. This gives Claudia a clean two-tone appearance, with enough contrast to stand out in planted groups while still feeling refined.
Tulip Claudia works best where the flower shape can be noticed rather than lost in rough or distant planting. It is well suited to estate paths, hotel entrances, public garden borders, courtyard containers, civic planters, business frontages and Tidy Towns displays. The purple and white colouring combines well with white narcissus, dark purple tulips, soft pink tulips, blue muscari and late spring alliums.
The lily-flowered form gives Claudia a lighter, more graceful look than Darwin Hybrid or double tulips. Claudia reaches around 45 to 50cm, flowering in late April or early May, with slender foliage and stems that appear delicate while still showing resistance to bad weather. This is useful for Irish spring displays, provided the bulbs are planted in free-draining soil and not left sitting wet through winter.
