Tulip Blue Diamond

Tulip Blue Diamond

A frilled violet-lilac double tulip, perfect for romantic beds, floristry, and richly textured late spring planting.

Description

Tulip Blue Diamond is a sumptuous, late-blooming double tulip with deep violet-lilac petals and a distinctive frilled peony-like form. Flowering from late April into May, its multi-layered blooms evolve from tight violet buds to fully open lavender-purple rosettes with plum and silvery highlights. It stands 40–50 cm tall, bringing luxurious depth and romantic texture to spring beds, containers, or show garden borders.

It thrives in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun or light shade. Ideal for formal borders, historic plantings, showpiece containers, and floristry-focused displays. The rich colour palette of Blue Diamond harmonises beautifully with purple Alliums, Tulip Negrita, and late-flowering Narcissus. Its compact but full form lends itself well to layered planting in mixed seasonal schemes.

This cultivar is lightly scented and provides modest support for late hoverflies and pollinators due to its semi-open petal structure. For enhanced ecological value, surround with nectar-rich perennials.

A florist favourite for its colour stability and petal form, Blue Diamond is well suited to wedding bouquets, spring arrangements, and large-scale border planting. Its weather resilience and strong stems ensure excellent garden performance in both exposed and sheltered Irish conditions.

Plant in groups of 12–30 bulbs for dense visual impact, especially along garden paths or near entrance beds where detail can be appreciated.
