Tulip Akebono

Tulip Akebono

A graceful, late semi double, buttery-yellow tulip with red-edged petals. Elegant and fragrant, ideal for refined Irish spring displays.

Description

Tulip Akebono is a refined and luxurious mid-to-late spring tulip offering large, semi-double buttery-yellow blooms gently brushed with red near the petal edges. The blooms have a luminous glow in low spring light and a softly ruffled edge, standing at 40–50 cm. Lightly fragrant and deeply elegant, Akebono fits perfectly into high-end residential plantings, formal courtyard borders, and prestigious container displays. Grow in fertile, well-drained loam enriched with compost and positioned in full sun. Particularly well-suited to manicured estates, garden show borders, or hotel forecourts where spring elegance is key. Pair with white or pastel-pink tulips such as Pink Star, or contrast with the steely blue of Muscari latifolium or the dusky purple of Tulip Ronaldo. The flower’s slightly open form allows pollinators access late in the tulip season, especially bumblebees and hoverflies. Its fragrant presence is subtle but appealing in warm, still air. Particularly effective in mass planting when softened with evergreen structure or cloud-pruned box. Its strong stems also make it a premium cut flower choice for florists looking to deliver classic spring beauty.
