Scilla mischtschenkoana

Scilla mischtschenkoana

Very early-flowering pale blue blooms with a central stripe. Excellent for naturalising in light shade and winter colour in woodland borders.

Description

Scilla mischtschenkoana is among the earliest of the scillas and is valued for its pale icy blue flowers with a delicate and refined appearance. It is an excellent choice for lighter woodland planting, gravel gardens, front of border positions and small scale naturalised schemes where subtle spring colour is wanted at the very start of the season. Horticulturists and gardeners can use it to create quiet early carpets beneath deciduous trees or in well drained sites where finer detail is important. In Irish landscapes it is particularly effective when used with snowdrops, pale crocus and other gentle early bulbs in more understated spring designs.
