Organic Crocus sativus

Organic Crocus sativus

Certified organic saffron crocus. Autumn-flowering with lilac blooms and vivid red stigmas. Suitable for ornamental use and culinary harvest.

Description

Organic Crocus sativus, the Saffron Crocus, is a rare and valuable addition to Irish gardens. Flowering in October, this certified organic strain produces light lilac blooms with rich red stigmas — the source of true saffron. Ideal for edible landscaping, herb gardens, or ornamental autumn interest, it grows best in full sun with well-drained soil.

While traditional saffron production is associated with warmer climates, Crocus sativus performs well in sheltered Irish locations with free-draining conditions. Its compact form and late bloom time make it a useful companion for Colchicum autumnale, Sternbergia lutea, or Cyclamen hederifolium. Harvest stigmas just after flowering and dry gently for culinary use or simply enjoy the vibrant blooms and pollinator activity they attract.
