Galanthus nivalis 5/6

Galanthus nivalis 5/6

Classic white snowdrop for naturalising. Early-flowering, hardy, and ideal for woodland, lawns, and shade planting. Naturalises reliably in Irish gardens.

Description

Galanthus nivalis is the classic common snowdrop, flowering from late January to March with nodding white bell-shaped blooms marked by green inner segments. This species thrives in the Irish climate, where moist soil and mild winters encourage strong naturalising in lawns, woodland edges, and shaded borders.

Ideal for underplanting deciduous trees and shrubs, it offers one of the earliest displays of spring colour. Highly suited to naturalistic planting in estates, parks, and private gardens, G. nivalis is low-maintenance, rabbit-resistant, and highly pollinator-friendly.

In Irish conditions, it naturalises quickly and benefits from being planted “in the green” or as dormant bulbs in early autumn.
