Description
Fritillaria imperialis Maxima Lutea produces tall, golden-yellow bells in April, hanging in regal clusters beneath a spiky green crown. Growing up to 120 cm tall, it delivers commanding spring structure while providing early-season food for pollinators including honeybees and hoverflies.
A stalwart in Irish borders and large beds, it suits both traditional estate plantings and modern naturalistic schemes. Its bright colour contrasts beautifully with the violet tones of Allium aflatunense or the clean whites of Narcissus Thalia. Plant bulbs deeply in well-drained soil and allow them to naturalise undisturbed for best performance.
