Corydalis cava

Corydalis cava

A woodland perennial with tubular lilac-purple flowers, Corydalis cava thrives in moist, shaded areas and naturalises well beneath trees and shrubs.

Description

Corydalis cava is a herbaceous woodland perennial ideal for early spring colour in shaded or semi-shaded planting schemes. It produces a carpet of finely cut, fern-like foliage followed by spurred, tubular flowers in lilac-purple or soft pink tones. This species is especially suited to naturalising beneath deciduous trees, where its fleeting spring growth coincides with high light availability. As a classic ephemeral, it dies back completely by early summer, making it a smart companion for later-emerging perennials. Landscapers value its ability to provide soft texture, support early pollinators, and contribute to woodland and meadow-style planting palettes. Performs best in humus-rich, moist but free-draining soils.
