Description
Anemone nemorosa, or the Wood Anemone, is a treasured native perennial used extensively in ecological and woodland-style planting schemes. Flowering in early spring, it produces delicate, star-like white blooms often flushed with pink or lilac, held just above a carpet of finely divided green foliage.
This rhizomatous species is slow to establish but long-lived, spreading gently to form naturalistic drifts beneath deciduous trees or along woodland margins. For landscapers, it’s an invaluable tool for restoring native ground flora, adding seasonal interest, and supporting early pollinators in shaded environments.
It thrives in humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, and works beautifully alongside species like Hyacinthoides non-scripta, Fritillaria meleagris, Scilla or Erythronium Pagoda. Once settled, it requires no maintenance and returns reliably each spring, adapting well to dappled light and undisturbed ground.
