Description
Tulip Blue Heaven is a unique multiflora tulip, meaning each bulb produces multiple blooms on lightly branched stems, offering a more naturalistic, meadow-like effect compared to traditional single-flowering tulip forms. Each flower displays a misty blend of soft lilac, lavender-blue, and pale violet tones with a gentle satin finish that intensifies in morning or late-day light. Flowering in mid to late spring (late April to early May), it grows to 45–55 cm and adds graceful, layered volume to mixed borders, informal displays, and pollinator-friendly spring beds.
This cultivar is ideal for planting in full sun in free-draining, humus-rich soils, especially in designs aiming to blur the boundary between cultivated and naturalistic. It excels in modern prairie schemes, naturalised bulb drifts, or pastel planting palettes. The multiflowering habit provides additional flower density per planting area, making it an excellent choice for cost-effective, high-impact design.
Blue Heaven works beautifully alongside Camassia quamash or Anemone nemorosa . The cool blue tones also contrast well with warmer yellows such as Narcissus ‘Carlton or soft pinks like Tulip Pink Star.
Though not heavily scented, its open blooms provide valuable nectar access for hoverflies, bumblebees, and solitary bees at a time when many early bulbs have faded. Its extended bloom period and flower count make it particularly useful in biodiversity-focused schemes where layered succession planting is key.
Use in groups of 10–15 bulbs per square metre for naturalistic effect, or stagger among perennials in loose sweeps for maximum visual rhythm. Great for mixed container displays as well as informal park, urban meadow, or residential planting projects.
