Description
Crocus tommasinianus Ruby Giant is a standout early spring crocus, flowering from mid-February with bold ruby-purple blooms that open wide on sunny days. Slightly taller and more vigorous than other tommasinianus forms, Ruby Giant spreads rapidly in lawns, meadows, and along hedgerows, making it a favourite for large-scale naturalising in Irish landscapes.
It performs best in full sun or light shade and tolerates heavier Irish soils provided they are not waterlogged. An excellent early-season nectar source for bees, it pairs well with Galanthus nivalis, Chionodoxa sardensis, and Iris reticulata Harmony to create a layered, biodiverse planting with extended interest.
