Description
Tulip Moonblush is a refined Lily Flowered Tulip, admired for its graceful, tapering blooms and ever-changing tones. Its long, elegant petals flare into pointed, reflexing tips, glowing first in soft primrose yellow before gradually developing romantic washes of apricot, blush-pink, and rose. As the flowers mature, the outer petals soften into a silvery pastel sheen, while the inner tones deepen with warmth, creating a multi-layered colour play that changes daily with light and weather. This shifting effect gives Moonblush a painterly character that feels almost alive within the planting scheme.
Flowering in late spring at around 55 cm, Moonblush carries tulip season into its final act with poise and delicacy. Despite its slender form, the variety is resilient in Irish gardens, holding its shape against showers and breezes while still retaining its elegance. Moonblush is not the most generous providers of nectar and pollen, but compensates with ornamental value, and when planted alongside pollinator-rich companions such as Allium Purple Sensation, Camassia leichtlinii caerulea, or naturalised Muscari, the display balances spectacle with ecological contribution.
Plant Moonblush in autumn, ideally October to November, in fertile, free-draining soil with good sunlight. Its tall, elegant form makes it particularly well-suited for formal borders, mixed perennial schemes, and naturalistic drifts where its subtle colours can shimmer among greens and silvers. In containers, it offers a designer’s flourish, its arching silhouettes and evolving shades rewarding close observation. For landscapers, it is invaluable in civic displays, where its soft blush tones help temper stronger reds and purples while providing a sophisticated seasonal finale.
As a cut flower, Moonblush offers longevity and evolving colour, its goblet-like blooms unfurling gracefully in vases. Its delicate pastel tones complement whites, mauves, and apricots, making it an ideal choice for spring weddings, celebratory bouquets, or refined arrangements. With its blend of elegance, adaptability, and late-season presence, Moonblush brings both drama and softness to gardens across Ireland.
