Tulip Ad Rem

Tulip Ad Rem

A tall, glowing red-orange tulip edged in gold. Strong-stemmed and ideal for public landscapes and mid-season mass planting.

Description

Tulip Ad Rem is a commanding Darwin Hybrid tulip prized for its glowing red-orange blooms rimmed with golden yellow. A mid-spring stalwart, flowering in April across most of Ireland, it stands 45–55 cm tall and holds its form even in coastal wind or exposed sites due to its stout stem and strong growth habit.

Best suited to large-format public displays, mixed spring borders, estate avenues, or high-footfall commercial plantings. It excels in municipal parks and roadside verges where impact and uniformity are essential. Plant in full sun in free-draining loam or sandy soils; neutral to slightly acidic soil pH is ideal. Avoid planting too shallow—at least 10 cm deep for stability.

Tulip Ad Rem combines elegantly with yellow or orange-red Darwin hybrids, purple hyacinths like Woodstock, or late daffodils such as Narcissus Salome. Mass it with 75–100 bulbs for consistent visual rhythm across beds. Excellent for mechanical planting used in large-scale landscaping projects.

The blooms are subtly fragrant and, once open, allow partial access for larger-bodied bees and pollinators. Its reliable return makes it suitable for semi-naturalised beds where low-maintenance spring interest is needed.

After bloom, allow the foliage to die back naturally for bulb recharge. ‘Ad Rem’ is also a strong cut flower — harvest when blooms are half-open for longest vase life.
