Description
Organic Tulip saxatilis is a compact botanical tulip for planting where a softer naturalistic display is required. The flowers are pink, purple and yellow in character, with lilac-pink to mauve-pink petals and a prominent yellow centre.
Saxatilis is best used where a species tulip can be treated as a botanical feature rather than a bedding block. It suits courtyard containers, gravel borders, raised planters, estate garden edges, hotel garden paths, public garden collections, rockery-style planting and naturalistic commercial landscapes. Its open flower form gives the strongest effect in sunny, free-draining positions.
Saxatilis works well with blue muscari, early crocus, low narcissus, white species tulips, soft yellow botanical tulips, fine grasses and gravel-style planting. It is particularly useful where a designer wants a lighter spring effect than strong red, orange or purple species tulips, while still keeping a clear yellow centre for impact at close range.
Species tulips are often better suited than large hybrid tulips to naturalistic schemes, and the species tulips often increase in stamina and spread naturally once established in the garden. Sustainably sourced
