Description
Camassia cusickii is a tall and graceful spring bulb valued for its pale blue flower spikes and airy upright habit. It is especially useful in moisture retentive borders, meadow style planting and larger naturalistic schemes where a softer vertical line is needed in late spring. The flowers open gradually along the stem, giving a longer period of interest and helping bridge the gap between the early bulb season and the rise of summer perennials. In Irish conditions it performs particularly well in fertile soil that does not dry out too quickly in spring. It is well suited to horticulturists, landscape contractors, estate gardens and public planting where bulbs are used to create a more established and biodiverse planting style. The open flowers are attractive to pollinating insects and combine well with narcissus, later tulips, ornamental grasses and informal perennial planting.
