Description
Tulip Rasta Parrot is a flamboyant Parrot tulip, famed for its deeply feathered and twisted petals that create a dramatic, almost tropical effect. The colouring is a bold mix of scarlet-red streaked with green flames, giving it an exotic and painterly quality that stands out in any planting scheme. As the blooms mature, the petals arch and curl, producing a theatrical, free-form flower that looks just as striking in the garden as it does in a vase.
Reaching 35–45 cm, Rasta Parrot flowers in late spring, extending the tulip season with its flamboyant display. While its wild form may look delicate, it is held on sturdy stems that cope well with Irish breezes and rain. Best planted in sunny, well-drained soil, it thrives in both formal borders and bold container plantings where its eccentric character can be fully appreciated.
Though not strongly fragrant, the blooms are large and long-lasting, making them excellent for cut flower arrangements. Its biodiversity contribution is limited due to its complex flower form, but planting alongside pollinator-friendly bulbs like alliums or muscari helps balance ecological value.
