Description
Tulip Purple Pride is one of the largest Darwin Hybrid Tulips, producing enormous goblet-shaped flowers in glowing shades of lilac-purple with subtle silvery highlights. Each bloom can reach up to 10 cm across, making it one of the most commanding purple tulips for gardens and landscapes. Flowering in mid-spring, it is a reliable showpiece in beds, borders, and public plantings.
Reaching 50–55 cm tall, Purple Pride is built for durability, with thick stems and strong weather tolerance. It is particularly well suited to Irish landscapes, where wind and rain can easily flatten weaker varieties. As a Darwin Hybrid, it is also capable of perennialising when planted deeply in fertile, well-drained soil, offering multi-year reliability.
Though not heavily fragrant, its sheer size and impact make it valuable in both gardens and floral design. Its broad open cups allow some pollinator access, though pairing it with nectar-rich bulbs like muscari or alliums enhances biodiversity.
For planting design, it pairs beautifully with crisp whites like Maureen, deep blacks such as Paul Scherer, or warm tones like Menton to create painterly combinations. In cut arrangements, its scale makes it a dramatic focal flower.
