Tulip polychroma

Tulip polychroma

Tulip polychroma is a compact botanical tulip with crisp white star-shaped flowers and golden-yellow centres and grey-green foliage, giving early spring displays a bright, clean botanical detail at low height. Well suited to plant in rockeries, gravel gardens and naturalised sunny planting where compact height, bright white flowers, golden centres and refined botanical spring detail are required.

Description

Species Tulip Polychroma is a compact botanical tulip used for the display that needs freshness, light and fine spring detail. It offers a cooler, cleaner effect than the orange and red species tulips, with white flowers and yellow centres that read well in gravel gardens, raised beds, containers and naturalistic border fronts. The flowers are white and star-like when open, with a warm yellow centre. P

Polychroma is best used where a small tulip can be viewed close up. It suits gravel borders, raised planters, courtyard containers, public garden collections, estate path edges, hotel garden details, rockery-style beds and compact commercial landscapes. Its pale colouring makes it especially useful for brightening early spring planting without the visual weight of larger white hybrid tulips.

Polychroma combines well with blue muscari, early crocus, low narcissus, soft yellow botanical tulips, fine grasses, white species tulips and simple spring perennials. It works best in generous small groups rather than isolated bulbs, allowing the white flowers and yellow centres to create a clear early-season sparkle at ground level.
