Tulip orphanidea flava

Tulip orphanidea flava

Tulip orphanidea flava is a compact wild tulip with mainly yellow flowers with bronze, red and green outer tones, giving spring displays a warm botanical character with subtle colour variation and useful multi-flowering detail. Plant  to rockeries, gravel borders, raised beds, courtyard planters, public garden collections, estate garden edges and naturalistic commercial landscapes where compact height, warm yellow colour, naturalising potential and distinctive species tulip character are required.

Description

Species Tulip Flava is a compact botanical tulip for planting where yellow is required with more natural character than a standard hybrid tulip. It has a wild, lighter quality, with smaller yellow flowers, slender foliage and variable bronze-red markings that give the planting a less formal and more naturalistic finish.

Tulip Flava is best used where small-scale botanical detail can be appreciated. It suits gravel gardens, raised planters, courtyard containers, estate garden edges, public garden collections, hotel garden paths, rockery-style planting and naturalistic commercial landscapes. Its yellow colouring gives warmth, while the bronze, red and green outer markings prevent the display from looking flat. Flava is suitable where repeat performance and a less seasonal bedding look are desired.

Use Species Tulip Flava with blue muscari, early crocus, low narcissus, white species tulips, fine grasses, compact alliums and other botanical tulips. It works best in repeated groups rather than isolated bulbs, allowing the yellow flowers and warm outer markings to read as a coherent early spring feature.
