Tulip Night Club

Tulip Night Club

A multiflora tulip producing multiple magenta-pink blooms per stem. Hardy, dramatic, and ideal for borders, pots, and Irish landscapes.

Description

Tulip Night Club is a striking multiflora tulip, celebrated for its ability to produce multiple blooms on a single strong stem — sometimes three to five flowers opening together in a radiant cluster. The colouration is a dramatic blend of rich magenta-pink suffused with deeper violet undertones, which glow beautifully in both bright sunlight and softer evening light. This layered colouring, combined with the multiflora habit, creates an eye-catching, almost bouquet-like effect in the garden.

Flowering in mid- to late spring, Night Club rises to around 40–50 cm, with strong, resilient stems that withstand the variable Irish climate — rain, wind, and sudden temperature swings. Each stem becomes a mini-display in itself, making this variety particularly impactful in smaller gardens, where fewer bulbs are needed for a strong effect, and equally valuable in larger drifts where the clusters form waves of colour.

Night Club is not strongly fragrant, though in sheltered, sunny locations, a light sweet note may be detected. Its biodiversity contribution is modest, but the open form of its multiple blooms makes it more accessible to bees than heavily doubled varieties, providing pollen during a critical spring period. To increase ecological support, it pairs well with companion bulbs such as Allium Purple Sensation, Muscari armeniacum, and Narcissus Thalia, which extend nectar availability and carry colour interest beyond the tulip season.

In terms of planting, Night Club thrives in free-draining, moderately fertile soils with plenty of sun, though it tolerates light shade in urban gardens. It is best suited to borders, containers, and mass landscaping projects, where its multiflora clusters maximise impact. It also performs superbly as a cut flower, where a single stem brings the effect of an entire bouquet, making it popular with florists and home arrangers alike.
