Tulip Negrita 11/12

Tulip Negrita 11/12

A rich purple Triumph tulip with velvety mauve undertones. Hardy, reliable, and striking in Irish borders and arrangements.

Description

Tulip Negrita is one of the most reliable and popular Triumph Tulips, famed for its saturated purple blooms that glow with violet undertones in full sun. Each goblet-shaped flower has broad petals that shimmer with hints of plum and magenta, shifting subtly under spring light to provide constant visual depth. Its rich colouring makes it an anchor tulip, one that gives structure and bold presence to both private gardens and large-scale landscaping projects.

Blooming in mid- to late-spring at 45–50 cm, Negrita stands strong in Irish weather, its sturdy stems withstanding wind and showers with ease. It is not heavily fragrant and has moderate biodiversity value, offering limited pollen when fully open. For pollinator-conscious designs, Negrita is most effective when interplanted with biodiversity allies such as Allium christophii or Muscari armeniacum, which extend forage opportunities while complementing its purple tones.

Planted in autumn, Negrita thrives in sunny, free-draining beds, containers, and formal borders, where it delivers reliable colour year after year. Its depth of tone makes it especially striking when combined with tulips in paler shades such as Menton, Moonblush, or Maureen. In civic schemes, Negrita is frequently used en masse for its bold visibility, while in private gardens it brings a sense of richness and reliability. It is also valued as a cut flower, lasting well in arrangements and offering a bold, velvety purple statement.
