Tulip Muscadet

Description

Tulip Muscadet is an elegant Single Late French tulip, celebrated for its tall stature and luminous colouring. This version reveals classic goblet-shaped blooms in a rich, glowing yellow that captures the light of late spring. The petals are broad and gently flaring at the tips, opening wide in sunshine to reveal a cheerful brilliance that instantly brightens borders and public displays. Its colouring is clear and consistent, creating a bold visual anchor in mixed plantings or as a striking mass of golden tones when used in drifts.

Flowering in late spring on tall stems of 55–65 cm, Muscadet is bred for resilience and endurance. French Single Lates are known for their height and elegance, and this tulip is no exception—its strong, upright stems withstand wind and rain, even under the often changeable Irish climate. Though not especially fragrant, Muscadet has moderate biodiversity value, providing pollen when its cups open fully on warm days, attracting bees and other pollinators in late spring when food sources are shifting.

Plant Muscadet in autumn, choosing fertile, well-drained soils in sunny positions to ensure the longest-lasting displays. It thrives in formal beds, urban landscaping, mixed perennial borders, and large planters, where its glowing yellow tones create brightness and warmth. In civic planting, its height makes it perfect for impactful swathes along avenues, medians, or park edges.

For design combinations, Muscadet works superbly with deep shades like Tulip Queen of Night or National Velvet for high-contrast drama, while soft pairings with Tulip Menton or lilac-hued Negrita create painterly, pastel blends. It also partners well with later-flowering bulbs such as Allium Globemaster or Camassia leichtlinii caerulea, ensuring displays extend seamlessly from April into June. In arrangements, its tall, graceful stems and bright flowers bring both height and vibrancy, making it a florist’s favourite for late-spring cut flower work.
