Tulip Miranda

Tulip Miranda

A double late peony-style tulip with large, densely layered red blooms, delivering late-season drama in gardens and landscapes.

Description

Tulip Miranda is an extravagant double late tulip, often described as a “peony tulip” for its densely layered petals that create lush, full blooms. Its rich red flowers are deeply textured, with petals that seem to ripple and fold, creating a luxurious effect in beds and borders. Flowering late in the season, it brings a dramatic and flamboyant end to the tulip display calendar.

At 45–55 cm tall, Miranda stands sturdy on thick stems that can withstand spring breezes and showers, making it reliable in Ireland’s unpredictable weather. Planted en masse, it creates a lavish, carpet-like effect, while as a single specimen in containers or smaller gardens, it delivers theatre and drama. Pairing it with paler tulips such as Maureen or soft pinks like Menton tempers its richness, while blending it with dark tulips like Queen of Night heightens its opulence.

While not noted for fragrance, Miranda offers some biodiversity benefit with pollen still available in its layered blooms, though less accessible than single forms. It thrives in fertile, well-drained soils in full sun and is particularly well suited for use in high-profile public displays, formal bedding schemes, or dramatic garden focal points. As a cut flower, it holds well indoors, filling vases with its striking, multi-petaled form.
