Tulip Lambada

Tulip Lambada

Vibrant orange single fringed tulip with golden serrated edges. Late-flowering, resilient, and perfect for high-impact Irish gardens.

Description

Tulip Lambada is an electrifying single fringed tulip that brings an almost tropical heat to late-spring borders. Its petals blaze in a rich, warm orange, each tipped with a fine serrated edge in golden yellow, creating a glowing halo effect when caught by sunlight. The fine fringe lends texture and sparkle, while the vibrant two-tone colouring ensures it stands out in both formal bedding schemes and informal mixed borders. Standing around 45–50 cm tall, Lambada blooms late in the tulip season, making it a valuable successor to earlier-flowering varieties and an important contributor to extended colour in the garden.

This variety thrives in full sun and fertile, free-draining soils, yet is tough enough to handle the often unpredictable Irish late-spring climate — from coastal breezes to inland showers. In heavier soils, incorporating grit or sand at planting will prevent bulb rot and prolong its flowering performance over multiple years. Its strong stems hold the flowers upright and crisp, making it equally suitable for municipal displays, civic entrances, and estate avenues as for private cottage gardens and urban courtyard borders.

While Lambad’ is not a significant nectar source for bees, it plays a valuable role in biodiversity-friendly designs when partnered with late-flowering, pollinator-friendly bulbs such as Allium  Purple Sensation, Nectaroscordum siculum, or Camassia cusickii. It also creates a fiery visual contrast alongside cool-toned tulips like Maureen or Blue Diamond, and works beautifully in massed drifts to create a “wave” of flame-like colour.
