Description

Tulip Goudstuk is a luminous Kaufmanniana tulip — often called a “waterlily tulip” — that opens wide in the spring sunshine to reveal its gleaming gold and red petals in full display. The blooms have a low, open, star-like form when fully expanded, creating a carpet of colour that glows in early spring borders and rock gardens. Its glossy petals reflect light beautifully, and the compact stature makes it ideal for planting en masse or naturalising in grass and informal garden settings.

Reaching around 25–30 cm tall, Goudstuk thrives in full sun and well-drained soils with moderate fertility. It excels in sandy or gritty loams but will also adapt to lighter clay soils if improved with sharp sand or fine gravel. It’s perfectly suited for rockeries, alpine beds, the front of borders, or under deciduous shrubs where early-season light reaches the soil. It’s also a strong choice for naturalising in orchard grass, where it flowers before the canopy closes.

As an open-form tulip, Goudstuk offers excellent early forage for bees and other pollinators at a time of year when nectar sources are scarce. It pairs beautifully with other early bulbs such as blue crocus, Anemone blanda, or Scilla siberica for a biodiverse and visually striking spring tapestry. Hardy and low-maintenance, it returns reliably year after year, making it both an ornamental and ecological asset.
