Description
Tulip Gavota is a show-stopping Triumph tulip that delivers bold colour contrast and precise form in the second half of the spring bulb season. Each flower features rich, velvety maroon petals sharply edged in golden yellow, creating a crisp two-tone effect that intensifies with age. Its goblet-shaped blooms are carried on upright stems and hold their shape well in wind and light rain, making it a dependable performer in Irish planting schemes.
This cultivar reaches a mature height of around 40–45 cm and thrives in full sun and well-drained soils of moderate fertility. It adapts well to sandy loams, but can tolerate heavier soils when improved with grit or compost. Ideal for structured beds, colour-block schemes, or as an accent within pastel plantings needing a sharp tonal break. The strong contrast makes it especially effective in municipal installations, long-view estate borders, or spring bulb displays requiring rhythm and edge definition.
While Triumph tulips are not primary pollinator plants, Gavota offers modest value for bees and hoverflies on warm spring days. For biodiversity-enhancing schemes, interplant with Muscari latifolium, or late flowering daffodils like Rip van Winkle or Baby Boomer. A durable and versatile choice for mass displays, cut flower use, or heritage-style borders.
