Description
Tulip Foxtrot is a delicate yet impactful double early tulip, producing fully double, peony-like blooms in soft pink and white with subtle pastel blending across the outer petals. The densely packed flowers open in early spring and gradually deepen in tone from blush to rose as they age, giving each planting a dynamic visual evolution over its flowering period. Ideal for romantic, vintage, or pastel planting themes.
Growing to about 25–30 cm, Foxtrot is best planted in full sun in fertile, free-draining soils that retain moisture through spring but avoid winter waterlogging. Its compact stature makes it a top performer in containers, window boxes, and front-of-border schemes. Despite its showy form, it’s highly weather-resistant and holds up well in typical Irish spring conditions.
As a fully double tulip, it offers minimal value to pollinators, but it can be included in biodiversity-aware schemes by combining with open, nectar-rich spring bulbs like species crocus, muscari, or Anemone blanda. For layered display, plant in clusters with Hyacinth City of Haarlem, early narcissus, or mid-height species tulips such as polychroma or saxatilis. A favourite among garden designers looking for early-season softness with structural form.
