Description
Tulip Fortress is a robust Triumph tulip that brings deep tones and reliable structure to mid-spring planting schemes. Its broad, velvety petals are a rich purple with subtle undertones of mauve, giving the bloom a layered, smoky intensity that shifts slightly with light and temperature. The flower form is tight and upright, providing strong architectural presence both in mass plantings and formal designs.
Reaching a mature height of 60–65 cm, Fortress thrives in full sun and moderately fertile, well-drained soils. It’s particularly suited to exposed or coastal planting sites across Ireland, thanks to its thick stems and weather-resistant blooms. This tulip delivers bold contrast in public-facing beds, structured civic plantings, and seasonal colour blocks in estate or commercial landscapes. It pairs especially well with white or soft pink tulips such as Hakuun or Mistress for high-contrast planting, or with Muscari and Allium for naturalised succession.
Its single flower form allows limited but accessible foraging for pollinators on warm spring days. To enhance biodiversity, plant alongside nectar-rich companions like Anemone blanda or Muscari Siberian Tiger. Fortress is equally at home in high-visibility municipal displays or tightly curated border plantings where strength, elegance, and colour consistency are paramount.
