Description
Tulip Formosa is a distinctive viridiflora tulip that brings long-lasting, architectural interest to late spring schemes. Its flowers are soft lemon yellow with broad green feathering that runs through the centre of each petal â a classic viridiflora trait that adds cool contrast and longevity. The blooms develop slowly and last exceptionally long, often persisting for three weeks or more. Reaching 25â30 cm, Formosa offers height and contrast just as most other tulips are fading. This tulip thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly alkaline soils with moderate moisture retention. It is excellent for naturalising in semi-wild plantings or integrating into long-view formal beds and perennial borders. Formosa holds up well to both wind and rain, making it a reliable option for exposed or unpredictable Irish sites. Its open, upright flower form supports late-season pollinator activity, especially when planted near nectar-producing late narcissus or alliums. Pair with Tulip Spring Green, or Camassia for extended spring-to-summer transition schemes. A top choice for designers seeking unusual form and resilience late in the tulip season.
