Description
Tulip Double Shake is a bold, late-flowering peony-style tulip featuring large, densely petalled blooms in rich fuchsia rose with streaks of soft lilac and pale lavender. Each flower, held on 40 to 45 cm stems, creates a striking layered effect reminiscent of antique roses or hybrid peonies, perfect for premium late-spring displays. Its strong colour and form hold exceptionally well in the landscape, providing vivid visual presence even during unsettled spring weather.
Double Shake performs best in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil, and is ideal for structured designs in luxury hotel gardens, seasonal hospitality beds, restaurant terraces, and retail centre installations. It thrives in both coastal and inland areas, providing strong wind tolerance and structural durability. Amending clay soils with horticultural grit enhances drainage and promotes upright flowering.
This cultivar works particularly well in layered planting schemes and massed in estate borders where height and fullness are desired late in the tulip season. Complement with Allium Purple Sensation, late Narcissus Actaea, or foliage-rich perennials. While double forms offer limited nectar, their generous blooms create sheltered refuges for early solitary bees and hoverflies on bright spring days. Though not notably fragrant, their substantial petal mass helps trap warmth and support early insect activity within mixed biodiversity schemes.
