Description
Tulip Denmark is a vivid, high-impact Triumph tulip with flame-like colouring, blending intense scarlet-red petals with bright golden-yellow edges. Its mid-April bloom time and compact, weather-resilient form make it particularly well-suited for Irish spring planting schemes requiring structure, visibility, and strong midseason presence. It reaches around 40 to 45 centimetres in height and holds its blooms upright through wind and rain, making it a dependable choice for both coastal and inland sites.
This cultivar is ideal for beds, borders, and large public or private schemes where high-colour contrast is desired. Denmark performs best in full sun and moderately fertile, free-draining soils. In heavier soils drainage should be improved with horticultural grit or coarse sand prior to planting. It is particularly effective when planted en masse in municipal or civic contexts, including roadside verges, institutional frontage planting, estate gardens, and retail landscaping.
Denmark’s low height and striking colour pattern allow it to slot naturally into layered spring plantings. It is especially effective alongside darker-toned or single-colour Triumph tulips, and it integrates well with compact perennials and early flowering biennials. Suggested plant pairings include Muscari armeniacum and Tulip Jan van Nes. It also works well underplanted with Muscari or Anemone or planted in rings around shrubs with bare spring stems.
Though not strongly fragrant, Denmark provides visual cues and moderate landing space for early hoverflies and solitary bees, especially in full sun. It enhances biodiversity-friendly designs when combined with more nectar-rich species, contributing to the foraging landscape during the critical mid-spring period.
Recommended for urban planters, civic beds, public green spaces, housing estates, business parks, and hospital landscaping schemes. Also suitable for event-themed or colour-coded displays where consistency and reliability are essential.
