Tulip Crown of Negrita

Tulip Crown of Negrita

Bold Triumph tulip with plum-purple, crown-shaped blooms. Mid-April flowering. Ideal for formal beds, cutting gardens, and civic planting.

Description

Tulip Crown of Negrita is a rich-toned Triumph tulip with a distinctive crown-shaped bloom profile, offering deeply saturated plum-purple petals with subtly ruffled, flared tips. Blooming in mid to late April, it reaches a sturdy 40–45 cm, combining the bold colour intensity of its parent cultivar Negrita with a unique, sculptural floral form that adds texture and depth to professional designs.

Crown of Negrita delivers strong weather tolerance and upright, uniform flowering, making it ideal for municipal bedding, floristry-focused cutting blocks, and formal border planting in both coastal and inland Irish settings. It performs best in full sun and in deep, fertile, free-draining soils, though it will tolerate moderate shade in sheltered gardens. In regions with heavier soils, drainage should be improved with sharp grit, compost, or horticultural sand to reduce winter waterlogging.

This cultivar is especially well suited to high-contrast planting schemes in estate gardens and public beds, bridal or event-themed gardens seeking tonal structure, mid-spring succession planting in cutting gardens, and city park displays.

Its bold colouring and architectural form make it a compelling focal tulip in mass plantings or when rhythmically spaced through a matrix of lighter pinks, or white Triumphs. Pair with Tulip White Triumphator, Pink Impression, or Queen of Night for contrast and repetition, or integrate into perennial beds for variety and longevity.

Though not strongly scented or nectar-rich, Crown of Negrita provides moderate pollen access to early hoverflies and solitary bees, especially when used in multi-layered seasonal plantings that offer continuity across early to late spring. Its vivid colouring also plays a role in insect foraging visibility, drawing pollinators to nectar-bearing nearby species.
