Tulip Claudia

Tulip Claudia

Tall lily-flowered tulip with purple petals edged in white. Elegant and structural, ideal for stylish spring borders and urban schemes.

Description

Tulip Claudia is a dramatic lily-flowered tulip that opens late in the season with slender, flaring petals of deep plum-purple edged in white. Growing to 50–55 cm, it brings height and elegance to mid to late spring borders, offering vertical structure and stylish contrast among broader foliage perennials and bulbs.

It flourishes in full sun, in deep, humus-rich, free-draining soil, and is dependable across wind-exposed sites or sheltered urban beds alike. Avoid standing water in winter and provide bulb fibre or grit in heavier soil types.

Claudia is particularly effective when planted in drifts within long borders, between structural shrubs, or in cutting garden rows. Combine with White Triumphator, Black Hero, or Camassia leichtlinii to create high-contrast, seasonally layered effects.

While not fragrant, Claudia’s elegant shape adds value to pollinator-conscious borders, particularly when interspersed with nectar plants like early Alliums.
