Description
Tulip Big Smile is a towering, late-flowering Single Late tulip known for its sheer size and luminous golden-yellow blooms. Standing up to 70 cm tall and flowering in May, it brings height, structure, and dazzling colour to civic beds, campus entrances, event gardens, or hospitality venues where bold design is required.
Plant in full sun in rich, free-draining soil that is preferably with a pH between neutral and slightly alkaline. Big Smile thrives across Ireland, including exposed, coastal, and urban sites, due to its thick stem and weather-resistant form.
Perfect for mass planting in high-impact designs or as a vertical anchor in mixed beds. Combine with Tulip Queen of Night, Allium Baby’s Breath, or late-flowering Narcissus for dramatic contrast. Also effective in wide-planter combinations with structured evergreens or bold grasses.
While not heavily scented, its goblet-shaped bloom remains open for many days, offering useful nectar access to late spring bees and hoverflies. Ideal for biodiversity-forward schemes where staggered bloom times are key.
Plant in groups of 15–30 bulbs at 12–15 cm depth for best architectural effect. Particularly useful in professional mechanical planting regimes for hotels, schools, and large gardens.
