Tulip Avant Garde

Tulip Avant Garde

Is a creamy white to pale lemon peony-like bloom. Perfect for refined late spring beds, containers, and premium displays.

Description

Tulip Avant Garde is a majestic late-season peony-style double tulip distinguished by its sumptuous, creamy white outer petals and soft pale lemon inner tones that deepen to buttery yellow as the flower matures. These blooms have a luxurious, layered structure, opening fully in May on strong 45–55 cm stems. The tonal gradation—from ivory-white through primrose to gentle yellow—makes it especially captivating in morning or evening light, where its colouring seems to glow from within.

This cultivar is ideal for sophisticated courtyard gardens, luxury hospitality entrances, private estates, or contemporary spring displays requiring refined but impactful florals. It thrives in full sun, planted into rich, well-drained soil with neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Avoid waterlogged areas—if planting in containers or heavier soil, amend with horticultural grit or loam-based compost for drainage.

Tulip Avant Garde excels when massed in groups of 15–30 bulbs, especially in monochromatic or cool-toned palettes. It pairs beautifully with late white narcissus Thalia, or deep companion plants such as Tulip Queen of Night or Allium Purple Sensation for drama and contrast. It’s also a magnificent addition to white garden schemes or heritage-style show gardens.

Though not fragrant, the open, fully double flower form allows for partial pollinator access—supporting late-emerging bumblebees and hoverflies during the late tulip window. Its sturdy stems and weather-resilience make it a reliable performer in both inland and coastal Irish settings.

Particularly well suited for high-end floristry, wedding work, or elegant estate planting.
