Description
Bio Tulip saxatalis is the botanical alternative to bedding tulips. It produces smaller, starry lilac-purple flowers with a bright yellow centre that looks natural in gravel gardens, rockeries, meadow edges, and informal drifts where you want spring colour that does not look overly manicured. It is particularly good threaded through low groundcover or planted in pockets among stones and free-draining soil where it can settle in and build.
Supplied as 10 organic bulbs and shipped in outers of 5, it is easy for retailers to position as a naturalising, biodiversity-friendly tulip option within an organic range. Plant in autumn in a bright position and prioritise drainage.
Unlike many show tulips, Tulip saxatilis can naturalise well in suitable conditions and may return and spread gradually.
The open flower form is more accessible and can contribute useful early-season pollen in mild spring weather.
