Description
Bio Fritillaria imperialis Rubra is a true feature plant, built for customers who want height, drama and an unmistakable spring silhouette. The flower display is a crown of orange-red bells around the stem, topped with a leafy tuft that gives it a distinctive architectural finish. It works best placed as a focal point in borders, in gravel-style planting, or in formal beds where a single bulb can punctuate the scheme. It pairs well with tulips and narcissus because it sits above them and adds a different shape.
Supplied as 1 organic bulb per pack and shipped in outers of 5, it is easy for retailers to sell as a premium statement bulb. Recommend autumn planting in a sunny to lightly sheltered spot with free-draining soil; avoid winter wet.
Rubra can return reliably when left undisturbed, but it is generally a long-lived clump former rather than a bulb that rapidly naturalises.
This bloom adds early-season biodiversity interest and can be visited by insects, though it is mainly grown for its dramatic form.
