Narcissus Sun Disc 10/12

Narcissus Sun Disc 10/12

Low-growing golden-yellow daffodil with flat, disc-shaped blooms. Late flowering and perfect for rockeries, gravel beds, and pollinator support.

Description

Narcissus Sun Disc is a compact, late-flowering heirloom daffodil known for its cheerful simplicity and subtle charm. Each flower forms a near-perfect golden-yellow circle, with flattened petals and a broad, shallow cup creating the look of a polished disc — hence its name. With blooms just 4–5 cm across and a tidy height of 15–20 cm, it brings clarity and compact power to spring schemes that benefit from ground-hugging brightness and minimal height interference.

This variety excels in alpine gardens, gravel beds, raised planters, and along path edges or cemetery borders where its neat habit and warm colour contrast effectively with greys, stone, and spring foliage. It thrives in full sun and requires sharply drained soil — ideally gritty loam, sandy blends, or stony substrates commonly found in rockeries, roof gardens, or Irish green roofs. Sun Disc is highly suitable for low-mow grass strips, recessed front borders, or pockets of municipal sensory gardens where scale, colour, and fragrance must align.

Its wide open face allows good pollinator access, and its mild, sweet scent attracts early foraging bees and hoverflies, especially in sunny weather windows. Pair with Anemone blanda Blue Shades or species Crocus for layered seasonal interest in ecological corridors or community rock gardens.
