Description
Narcissus Rijnveld’s Early Sensation is among the earliest daffodils to flower in Irish gardens, often opening in January or early February — even through light snow or frost. Its classic yellow, large-cupped blooms and upright 35–45 cm stems make it a key cultivar for early-season civic planting, roadside colour drives, and community-led floral schemes where early cheer and ecological function are essential.
A true workhorse in public horticulture, this daffodil tolerates exposed urban soils, heavier clay loams, and disturbed ground. It excels in school grounds, council-maintained beds, and roadside banking where visual cues of seasonal change and public morale benefit from timely flowering. In terms of biodiversity, it provides early nectar and pollen to bumblebee queens, hoverflies, and hardy pollinators during a sparse period for floral resources.
Use it in combination with Galanthus and Crocus chrysanthus for a succession of early-spring habitat. Particularly effective in civic verges, residential estate entrances, and traffic-calmed garden triangles.
