Description
Narcissus Golden Dawn is a fragrant, multi-headed tazetta daffodil that brings both visual vibrancy and intense scent to spring displays. Each upright stem carries up to 3–5 blooms, each with buttery yellow petals and a rounded, deep yellow-orange cup, forming cheerful clusters that seem to glow in the morning light — true to its name.
Reaching 30–35 cm, it flowers in mid-spring and thrives in sunny, sheltered positions with fertile, free-draining soil. In Irish gardens, it is best used in containers, raised beds, or protected south-facing borders, where it can be appreciated up close and avoid the coldest coastal winds. The compact habit and vivid colour make it ideal for small gardens, courtyards, window boxes, or the front of mixed borders.
The sweet fragrance makes Golden Dawn a prime candidate for sensory gardens, school planting schemes, and therapeutic landscapes. Its open cups allow good access for hoverflies, early bees, and short-tongued pollinators, especially when planted in groups for strong scent trails.
It pairs exceptionally well with blue Muscari, white Hyacinths, or dwarf tulips like Stresa for a balanced, pollinator-friendly colour mix. A great choice for urban greening, scent gardens, and pollinator containers.
