Narcissus February Gold 14/16

Narcissus February Gold 14/16

Early golden daffodil with nodding trumpets. Great for roadsides, banks, and early pollinator support.

Description

Narcissus February Gold is one of the earliest flowering daffodils available, often blooming from late January through early March — even in the temperate Irish winter. Its flowers feature a rich golden-yellow perianth with a slightly deeper, flared trumpet that nods forward in a distinctive arc, bringing warmth and movement to cold-season borders.

Reaching 25–30 cm in height, this Cyclamineus hybrid is compact and ideal for low-maintenance public beds, roadside banks, early spring containers, and naturalised lawns. Its neat foliage and sturdy stems allow it to thrive in exposed, windswept coastal sites and urban hardscapes. It performs best in full sun but tolerates partial shade under deciduous trees or along the base of hedgerows.

An outstanding early nectar source, ‘February Gold’ provides critical sustenance for overwintering pollinators such as early-emerging bumblebee queens and solitary bees. Its long flowering period ensures continuity in pollen availability, especially when underplanted with Crocus tommasinianus or paired with early species tulips. It naturalises freely, making it a core choice for biodiversity-led municipal schemes and climate-resilient urban greening.
