Narcissus Avalon

Narcissus Avalon

A refined daffodil with soft lemon petals and a primrose-yellow trumpet. Ideal for naturalising in Irish borders and lawn edges.

Description

Narcissus Avalon is a refined, mid-height daffodil that brings harmonious soft yellow tones to Irish gardens in April. With broad, rounded lemon-yellow petals and a slightly paler primrose-yellow trumpet, it offers a subtle, elegant look that works well in mixed borders, bulb lawns, and naturalistic meadow planting. Its calm colouring makes it an ideal backdrop for bolder spring perennials and an excellent choice for restful colour schemes.

This cultivar reaches around 35–40 cm, with strong stems and long-lasting flowers. It thrives in sun or light shade, and tolerates a range of Irish soil types — from fertile loam to lighter sandy blends — as long as drainage is good. It’s particularly well suited to naturalising, as it increases steadily over time without becoming invasive, and complements other species well in succession planting.

Avalon supports biodiversity by providing accessible nectar to early bees, especially when interplanted with open-centred narcissi or species tulips. Pair it with Scilla, Crocus, or Muscari latifolium for soft, coordinated layers. A great all-rounder for designers seeking durability, subtlety, and wildlife value in spring planting.
