Description
Narcissus Avalanche is a classic multi-headed tazetta daffodil, beloved for its scented clusters of white and golden blooms. Each strong stem can carry up to 15–20 small, perfectly formed flowers, creating a lush, abundant appearance and a powerful spring fragrance that fills the air. Flowering in March and early April, it reaches a tidy height of around 30–35 cm, making it ideal for containers, sheltered borders, and cut flower beds.
Avalanche performs best in sunny, south-facing sites with free-draining soil. In Ireland, it’s especially well suited to coastal areas, courtyard gardens, or pot culture in sheltered locations where cold winds are minimised. As a tazetta type, it enjoys milder winters and should be planted deeply in autumn — around 12 cm. Adding a gravel mulch can help reduce slug damage and maintain stem strength.
While it may not be as bee-accessible as single narcissi, its fragrance attracts hoverflies, and it contributes to early-season sensory planting schemes. Combine with early tulips, white muscari, or blue hyacinths for a crisp, scent-rich display. Its floral longevity and consistent structure make it popular for municipal beds, churches, and formal spring events.
