Description
Muscari botryoides Superstar is a striking variety known for its bold, saturated cobalt-blue flowers arranged in tightly packed, upright clusters. Blooming in early spring, it delivers intense colour in compact form, reaching heights of around 15 to 20 cm. This makes it ideal for edge-of-border planting, rock gardens, spring bulb lawns, and container combinations where high-impact colour is desired on a small scale. In Irish gardens, Superstar is both hardy and low-maintenance, thriving in full sun and well-drained soils. It naturalises moderately, forming vivid patches that return reliably each year.
Superstar lives up to its name when combined with contrasting white or pale yellow bulbs such as Tulip Purissima or Narcissus Tête Bouclé, or planted en masse to create a sea of blue. It provides valuable nectar for bees and hoverflies, supporting early-season biodiversity at a time when pollinators are emerging from dormancy. With its bold colouring and tidy appearance, Muscari Superstar is a designer-friendly addition to both informal cottage-style borders and more architectural spring schemes.
