Description
Leucojum vernum, or the Spring Snowflake, is a compact, early-season bulb flowering from February to March with white, gently nodding bell-shaped flowers marked with green or yellow tips. It thrives in cool, moist woodland conditions and is ideal for naturalising beneath deciduous trees, in dappled shade, or along woodland edges.
Landscapers value L. vernum for its subtle beauty and strong pollinator appeal in early spring. Its preference for moisture-retentive soils makes it especially reliable in Irish gardens and public green spaces where early-season colour and habitat value are important.
Pairs beautifully with snowdrops, and eranthis.
