Description
Leucojum aestivum, known as the Summer Snowflake, is a clump-forming perennial bulb producing nodding white bell-shaped flowers with green-tipped petals from April to May. Despite its name, it flowers in mid-spring, thriving in damp, shady sites and along pond margins or stream edges.
Highly valued by landscapers for low-maintenance groundcover in moisture-retentive soils, this species is ideal for naturalising in meadows, woodland edges, and wild gardens. Performs reliably in the Irish climate and increases steadily once established.
Pair with ferns, primulas, or camassias in boggy or part-shaded areas. Also, excellent companion to Fritillaria meleagris, Narcissus jonquilla, and Galanthus in damp ground schemes.
